Simplist - Mobile Grocery List App
task/research
Task: Create a mobile grocery list app where users can share their list with family and shop in real time.
Before seeking design inspiration, I conducted a brief analysis of the current market for mobile grocery list apps:
Noted features, layouts, functions, and overall usability.
With a clear understanding of our competition, interviewed colleagues who regularly use these apps.
Quotes from interviewees were mapped into an affinity diagram, grouping post-its based on overlapping themes.
The post-interview analysis revealed valuable information about what users are looking for in an app like this:
Users are motivated to update a shopping list when other people in their household can receive updates
Crossing off items on a list, but not removing from the list entirely, is an important feature for users
Users want a simple interface, but one that allows them to complete their desired actions easily (no hidden actions)
FINAL DESIGN
I’ve become a fan of Neumorphism, and I thought this style would be a good fit for the concept. I named the app "Simplist" for mockup purposes.
This app concept called for a light, clean color palette with bold contrast. The bright, crisp palette, combined with strong button contrasts, clearly indicates where actions are, while secondary actions remain subtle yet noticeable.
